Barack Obama has hit the ground running in making his CHANGES. He has already spent the US into a state of debt never before seen in our history and the spending alone has shaken our economy to the core. Any recovery we may see is going to place us where we were 30 years ago and I am not likely to see it in my lifetime. I fortunately have not retired as I was considering a few years ago. I continue to practice Family Medicine and will do all I can for my patients till the ability to do so is taken away.
If he manages to meddle in Medicine to the degree that he has with the financial and business sectors, then Health Care will become an oxymoron. The current system is indeed falling on it's face because we do not expect recipients of care to have to pay for any of the scientific and technological benefits that they receive. Thus in order to provide care for all at the same level, the apparent plan is to bring everyone down to the same level of care that the budget will not bear. Those who can pay will be required to pay for caring for as many non-contributors as their visible balance sheets will allow.
The other side of this equation is the 'Health Care Provider'. Who is this going to be? Nearly 50% of todays practicing Physicians are over 50 years of age. When given the option of providing poor care for no benefit, I believe many of them will just opt out of the practicing pool. By the way, I did not go to Medical School and Residency in order to be called a 'Health Care Provider'. Is there anyone else out there who feels this way?
